Rabindranath Tagore was a Bengali polymath, poet, novelist, musician, playwright, philosopher, and artist who is widely regarded as one of the greatest literary figures in Indian history. He was born in Calcutta, British India in 1861 and was the first non-European to win the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1913 for his collection of poems, “Gitanjali”. Tagore’s works often explored themes of love, spirituality, nature, and humanity, and his writings have had a profound impact on the cultural and intellectual life of India and beyond. He was also a social reformer and nationalist, actively involved in the Indian independence movement.
